How to open an External Page from a Syndicated Conditional Chat Link

I'm writing a quick article in response to a question I received on another post inquiring if it was possible to open an external webpage instead of a Customer Portal page when the "Chat Now" link is clicked. Using standard functionality, this isn't possible, but using the techniques I've described in my other Syndicated Widget articles we can modify the core behavior to match our requirements.

Customizing the Chat States of the Syndicated Conditional Chat widget

For many customers, the default chat service States displayed by the Oracle Service Cloud Syndicated Conditional Chat widget do not meeting their business needs. A common desire is to have the chat link be available, even if all agent's are busy. This gives the user a chance to wait in the queue if they want.

This can be done easily by setting the 'min_sessions_avail' setting to 0, and the 'wait_threshold' setting to a very high value. I usually put it at 1 day by setting it to 86400 seconds.

Changing Polling Intervals on Syndicated Conditional Chat

One item that is not exposed in Syndicated Conditional Chat's initialization parameters is the polling interval. The interval is unfortunately hard coded into the widget, but this doesn't mean that you can't control it. There is a widget initialization parameter named "enable_polling"; when this value is set to "false", the widget will not poll the server. This then gives you the chance to write your own polling logic using the syndicated widget frameworks Event system.

Advanced Web Survey Themes

Everyone wants a branded style applied to their marketing surveys. Most clients will have a style guide with deliberate CSS rules, fonts, and layout specifications. The templating system in RightNow makes it very difficult for an experienced web designer or developer to apply these styles in an efficient manner.

Using a skeleton template to reference JavaScript and CSS files in CP you can keep all of your styling code outside of the administrator UI. A similar technique may also be used to assist in styling answers.

Survey SSL Error

CX Version:

If your marketing surveys are submitting to an error page that states "you must use ssl to access this resource", there is a quick workaround!

Customizing the Knowledge Syndication widget

I've observed a couple of Knowledge Syndication widget questions popping up lately, so I thought I'd do a quick demo of how you can customize the behavior of the widget.

Customization via Config Options

As always, you can use the standard configuration options during widget instantiation. These are well defined in the CP admin panel and can be found a the following address (substitute in your domain).

Fixing a CP3 bug where Proactive Chat can't pass Custom Fields to the Chat Landing page

I recently encountered an issue with Proactive Chat in CP that wasted a good 4 hours of my time and resulted in being a bug in the framework. According to Oracle, this should be fixed in Feb 13 SP3... but as a general rule I don't believe anything Oracle says until I see it happen.

In the meantime, there is a fairly easy fix through a simple customization of the ChatServerConnect widget.

This article will describe the bug, and provide details on the interim fix.

Proactive Chat - Intercepting Chat Events

RightNow Syndicated Proactive Chat is a RightNow feature that exposes proactive chat functionality to external websites such as your homepage, shopping cart, or any other page that can execute some JavaScript. Like Proactive Chat in Customer Portal, syndicated proactive chat prompts the user for a chat session when certain conditions are met (such as if the user has been on a single page for a configurable time interval). Due to the fragmented documentation around this product feature, most people don't know that you can customize the proactive chat experience beyond the basic settings available in the Syndicated Chat Wizard.

This tutorial will give a glimpse at the advanced customization possible.
